Who can post projects to Citizinvestor?
Only local government entities can post projects that raise money on Citizinvestor. We work hand-in-hand with municipalities to post projects that they have already expressed a desire to build, but are lacking funds to do so. The projects you will find on Citizinvestor are projects that can only happen with governments and citizens working together. A citizen can not build a park, put in speed bumps or renovate a city pool by themselves; they need to partner with government. Citizinvestor makes that partnership easier than ever.
Who can post petitions to Citizinvestor?
Anyone! We do not believe that government has all the answers (far from it). Petitions on Citizinvestor allow citizens to submit ideas for projects that their local government either hasn’t thought of or hasn’t approved. Once a petition reaches its target number of signatures, Citizinvestor delivers the petitions to the appropriate government entity and works with them to get that petition turned into a project on Citizinvestor.
What's the difference between a petition and a project?
Projects raise money while petitions raise signatures. Successful petitions have the opportunity to turn into projects in the future.
Why all-or-nothing funding?
By requiring that projects be 100% funded before being built, Citizinvestor ensures that there’s no risk to the participating municipality and no risk to the citizen investing.
Why should I invest money into local government projects?
Great question. Here’s three good reasons why:
- Unlike taxes, Citizinvestor gives you the power to tell your local government exactly where you want them to invest your hard-earned money.
- If you and your fellow citizens don’t, most of these projects will not happen.
- Investing in your community will pay dividends for generations to come.
Is the money I invest in projects on Citizinvestor tax deductible?
Yes! Under 26 U.S.C. § 170(c)(1) of the tax code, contributions made to political subdivisions for exclusively public purposes are categorized as charitable contributions. However, with all tax matters, we recommend you consult with a CPA.
How can I be certain that the municipality will use my money for a particular project?
We’ve got your back! Before any project is posted to Citizinvestor, our municipality partners agree that the money you invest into a specific project will only be used for that project.
Will my credit card be charged if a project doesn’t meet 100% of its funding goal?
No! We require that a project be funded in full before any money changes hands. If a project is only 99% pledged once the deadline hits, nobody’s credit card gets charged, including yours.
When will my credit card be charged?
Your credit card will be charged the same day in which a project reaches 100% of its funding goal.
How does Citizinvestor make money?
Each project's total cost includes an 8% fee: a 5% contribution to support this service and a 3% fee to our payment service provider.
