About this project
The Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department's Youth Urban Agriculture Program is planning to provide a garden-based education program to Philadelphia youth at the Rivera Recreation Center for the first time in Summer 2013. Your tax-deductible donation to this project will go towards purchasing and planting the wonderful plants needed to bring this garden to life. This includes:
- 3 fruit trees
- 12 berry bushes
- 50 eco-perennials
- 250 strawberries and groundcovers.
- 3 CY of mulch
- Site specific orchard design
- Planting supervision
This program aims to connect youth to the wonders of the natural world and discover the joys of eating the food they have grown. The youth will be engaged in fun garden activities and encouraged to become advocates for the environment. They will even get to share their bounty with their families and community. In partnering with the adjacent Mann Older Adult Center, this will be an intergenerational garden where older adults are committed to working with the youth in the garden. Our plans call for a 40’ x 60’ fenced-in garden with a 4 – 9 x 3’ raised garden beds for the youth and larger raised beds for their older gardeners. Once the garden is complete, youth ages 6-12 years old will be growing plants as well as learning about garden critters, composting, stewardship, healthy eating and the natural world.
We must raise $2,100 within 45 days to make this project come to life! Please invest in the lives of these Philadelphia youth, our community and the environment by pledging your tax-deductible donation today.
How can I be certain that the municipality will use my money for a particular project?
We've got your back! Before any project is posted to Citizinvestor, our partners agree that the money you donate to a specific project will only be used for that project.
Will my credit card be charged if a project doesn't meet 100% of its funding goal?
No! We require that a project be funded in full before any money changes hands. If a project is only 99% pledged once the deadline hits, nobody's credit card gets charged, including yours.
When will my credit card be charged?
Your credit card will be charged the same day in which a project reaches 100% of its funding goal.
Is the money I donate to projects on Citizinvestor tax deductible?
Yes! Under section 170 of the United States. Internal Revenue Code, it states that contributions made to political subdivisions for exclusively public purposes are categorized as charitable contributions. However, with all tax matters, we recommend that you consult a CPA.
